Write a story

Kenya was the name of my doppelganger. I thought it a strange name, thought he might call himself Jim or John, both my names. I am James John Madison. But no, he told me he was Kenya that first time I spotted him in the bathroom at the hotel.

At first I thought I was hallucinating, but he was real. Not a ghost, but an actual man. He said it was amazing our paths had crossed this way although he always guessed there was a second version of him around.

We discussed urban legends, that seeing our other half could bring on a death. But as a few months later, we were both still alive, perhaps it was a myth.

Kenya hadn't ever been to Africa. He was white, tall and fair haired. He said his parents had been obsessed with movies about animal safaris hence his unusual name.

Nothing about our actual lives was similar. Only our appearance.

Yesterday I saw Kenya rob a bank. Couldn't believe the coincidence of being in the queue and see myself press a gun to the temple of the cashier.

Kenya ran off with the money.

I am in custody trying to explain myself.

It's not going well as you can imagine.
